John Fogerty and "Centerfield" Honored at Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Fogerty is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame.  The 65-year-old former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman and his classic 1985 baseball-themed hit "Centerfield" were enshrined in the Hall on Sunday in Cooperstown, New York.  The Hall of Fame says it's the first time any musician has been so honored.  It's fitting -- a recording of "Centerfield" has been played at the start of Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for over ten years.

Baseball Hall of Fame Chairwoman Jane Forbes Clark said "Centerfield" "has always captured the spirit and the energy of those who have dreamed of being a baseball star and playing centerfield."

Fogerty himself both attended Sunday's ceremony and performed, albeit to a recorded track, before the player inductions began.  He pretended to play a guitar shaped like a Louisville Slugger baseball bat, which he then presented to Clark.  Fogerty told the crowd that "Centerfield," which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is a “thank you” to baseball for “all the joy and inspiration it has given me.”
