Paul McCartney: "I Scolded the Dalai Lama for Eating Meat"

Aside from being one of the world's most famous people, Paul McCartney is also one of the world's most famous vegetarians.  But even though he claims he doesn't try to persuade people to go vegetarian, he tells the UK paper The Guardian  in a recent interview that he did once personally write to the Dalai Lama, asking why the Tibetan spiritual leader ate meat.  McCartney tells the paper, "He wrote back very kindly, saying, 'My doctors tell me that I must eat meat.' And I wrote back again, saying, "I don't think that's right.' So we had a little correspondence."

Did Macca's letters make any difference to the holy man?  He reports that he thinks the Dalai Lama is now "mostly vegetarian," adding, "Even if I hadn't been Paul McCartney, I'd have written that letter. It just doesn't seem right, the Dalai Lama saying, "Hey guys, don't harm sentient beings...oh, and by the way, I'm having a steak.'"

McCartney also thinks that our culture is now more accepting of men, especially, going vegetarian.  He tells the paper, "As a kid, I would have thought of a vegetarian as a wimp.  I would have automatically laughed at them...coming from Liverpool, we were a pretty prejudiced little bunch."
